Imagine an app that helps monitor your water usage, or a “smart building” that tints its windows in response to sunlight in order to save on air conditioning costs.
Such technologies exist, but putting them to work will require integration on a number of fronts: improving broadband access in all areas of the country; standardizing the protocols that devices use to communicate with each other and encouraging businesses to be more open with their data.
A Council of Canadian Academies Panel, led by David Miller, President & CEO WWF-Canada and former mayor of Toronto, examines just what it will take to leverage Canada’s strengths in ICT to build a more sustainable future.
