(Credit: Marvin 101, <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Hirnmetastase_MRT-T1_KM.jpg\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two Canadian studies have found gene mutations that are linked to deadly brain tumors and could help scientists understand the causes of childhood brain cancer.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/ng\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/ng.2936.html\" target=\"_blank\">first paper<\/a>, researchers found mutations in a gene called ACVR1 in 20 per cent of a highly aggressive and difficult to treat childhood brain tumour, called diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas.
