\nAlthough trying e-cigarettes (vaping)\u00a0may prompt some young people to turn to\u00a0traditional cigarettes (smoking), according to this analysis of national data,\u00a0that\u00a0does not occur at the population level. The downward trend in traditional\u00a0smoking among young people in the U.S. accelerated after vaping became widespread in 2013. In addition, the proportion of young people who said they had smoked recently also decreased\u00a0once vaping became popular. Retail sales data confirm these trends.<\/p>\n
