Many of these individuals live in the North; for example, 72 per cent of Nunavut Inuit households experience moderate or severe food insecurity. The problem is reaching crisis levels, and the evidence shows that it is getting worse. While there is no single cause, Canadians have the tools they need \u00a0to tackle hunger in our own backyard.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A new report, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"The State of Knowledge of Food Security in Northern Canada\" href=\"http:\/\/www.scienceadvice.ca\/en\/assessments\/in-progress\/food-security.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Aboriginal Food Security in Northern Canada: An Assessment of the State of Knowledge<\/em><\/a><\/span> was, released March 27 by the Council of Canadian Academies. The Science Media Centre of Canada hosted a webinar to hear from the report\u2019s authors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Describe the situation faced by Aboriginals in Northern Canada today. What are their unique challenges?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">What are some best practices and possible solutions?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">What opportunities do we have to find a way forward?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speakers:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/dietetics\/staff\/professorial\/kuhnlein\" target=\"_blank\">Harriet Kuhnlein<\/a>, Professor Emerita of Human Nutrition, McGill University. Kuhnlein was Chair of the Expert Panel that produced the report, and will speak about its main findings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nrs-staff.mcgill.ca\/humphries\/\" target=\"_blank\">Murray Humphries<\/a>, Director of the Centre for Indigenous Peoples\u2019 Nutrition and Environment, McGill University.
