Kaspi, McGill University, is the winner of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Kapsi studies neutron stars and her research sheds light on how stars evolve and die, and the very nature of matter under extreme conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Barbara Sherwood Lollar, University of Toronto, is the winner of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NSERC John C. Polanyi Award<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Lollar, and her colleagues, discovered ancient waters bubbling out of rock fractures in mines more than two kilometers underground in Timmins, Ontario, and South Africa. Their analysis of the billion-year-old water uncovered valuable information about deep chemical processes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Dr. Shana Kelley and Dr. Edward H. Sargent, University of Toronto: The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Science and Engineering for developing a new device that can provide diagnostic test results to a doctor in 20 minutes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr J.David Miller, Carleton University: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Synergy Award for Innovation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the collaborative research with J.D.
