Using 14 years of satellite data researchers were able to develop the vegetation sensitivity index. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The index is based on three variables that drive vegetation production &#8211; air temperature, water availability, and the degree of cloud cover. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The researchers believe the map could provide a method of quantifying the relative response rates of ecosystems to environmental change, whether natural or anthropogenic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/nature16986.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Original research paper<\/span><\/a>\u00a0published in <em>Nature\u00a0<\/em>on <strong>February 17<\/strong><span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_453723367\"><span class=\"aQJ\"><strong>, 2015<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Names and affiliations of selected\u00a0authors<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alistair Seddon, Department of Biology, University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The areas of the world most sensitive to climate variation have been mapped by researchers.
