(Image credit: Louis Sorkin)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By analysing and sequencing the genome of the bed bug, <em>Cimex lectularius<\/em>, researchers have identified genes associated with insecticide resistance. Over the last 20 years the bed bug has developed abilities which limit the effectiveness of insecticides.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Researchers hope their findings will help uncover mechanisms of insecticide resistance.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bugs have certain proteins in their cuticle coating that is able to block the insecticide from penetrating the insect.
