{"id":4215,"date":"2015-07-27T17:38:40","date_gmt":"2015-07-27T22:38:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/?p=4215"},"modified":"2015-07-27T17:38:40","modified_gmt":"2015-07-27T22:38:40","slug":"an-antibody-against-mers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/an-antibody-against-mers\/","title":{"rendered":"An antibody against MERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SMCC-english2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-110\" src=\"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SMCC-english2.jpg\" alt=\"SMCC-english2\" width=\"255\" height=\"126\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Researchers have found, for the first time, an antibody against Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV), which has been responsible for over 1,300 human infections and over 450 deaths since it was first identified in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The research team believes the antibody, known as LCA60, can be used to develop a monoclonal antibody against MERS-CoV that could be used to protect against and treat the disease.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers isolated the antibody, from the memory B cells of an infected individual.
