Shoichet, a professor of chemical engineering from the University of Toronto, has won the 2015 L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards for North Americ.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Dr.Shoichet received the award \u201cfor her pioneering work on the regeneration of nerve tissue and for the development of a new method to deliver drugs to the spinal cord and brain, overcoming the blood-brain barrier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI\u2019m grateful to UNESCO and L\u2019Or\u00e9al for having an award honouring scientific excellence, for having an award honouring women in this role, and now to be included in this esteemed group,\u201d said prof. Shoichet.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/new\/en\/natural-sciences\/about-us\/single-view\/news\/five_exceptional_women_honored_for_their_ground_breaking_discoveries_in_the_physical_sciences\/#.VPei2vnF-Sq\" target=\"_blank\">L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards<\/a><\/span> are presented every year to five women, one from each world region (Africa and the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America). This prize are given to acknowledge scientists with an \u201cunique career path combining exceptional talent, a deep commitment to her profession and remarkable courage in a field still largely dominated by men\u201d.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Molly S.
