The disorder, also called CAID syndrome, is a combination of heart arrhythmia and intestinal obstruction.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have found that all patients are carriers of one common mutation in a gene related to the cohesin protein involved in cell division.<\/p>\n<p>Further gene analysis identified a couple, married in France in 1620, as the founders of the genetic disorder in North America, with an out-of-Scandinavia origin of the mutation in the 12th century.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/ng\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/ng.3113.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Original research paper<\/span><\/a>\u00a0published in <em>Nature Genetics\u00a0<\/em>on\u00a0<strong>October\u00a05, 2014<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Names and affiliations of selected\u00a0authors<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chu-sainte-justine.org\/research\/chercheurs.aspx?ID_NOUVEAU=65940082&amp;id_page=2432&amp;id_menu=2429\" target=\"_blank\">Gregor Andelfinger<\/a>, University of Montreal, Quebec<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rare genetic disorder can be traced to early settlers in Quebec and their European ancestors according to a new study.
