{"id":2725,"date":"2014-08-10T12:59:50","date_gmt":"2014-08-10T17:59:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/?p=2725"},"modified":"2014-08-10T13:01:40","modified_gmt":"2014-08-10T18:01:40","slug":"a-new-explanation-for-the-big-bang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/a-new-explanation-for-the-big-bang\/","title":{"rendered":"A new explanation for the Big Bang?<img src=\"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/canada_flag_icon_small.gif\">"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SMCC-english2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-110\" src=\"http:\/\/sciencemediacentre.ca\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SMCC-english2.jpg\" alt=\"SMCC-english2\" width=\"255\" height=\"126\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The big bang poses a big question: if it was indeed the cataclysm that blasted our universe into existence 13.7 billion years ago, what sparked it?<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Three researchers at Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Ontario explored a new idea about what might have come before the big bang in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/the-black-hole-that-birthed-the-big-bang\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scientific American cover story called <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Black Hole at the Beginning of Time<\/span>.<\/a> What we perceive as the big bang, they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perimeterinstitute.ca\/news\/black-hole-birth-universe\" target=\"_blank\">propose<\/a>, could be the three-dimensional \u201cmirage\u201d of a collapsing star in a universe profoundly different than our own.
