Wallin)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Streams in the boreal forest emit more carbon dioxide than previously thought, a new study shows. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Researchers discovered that previous studies on CO2 emissions from lakes and groundwater\u00a0only studied the endpoints of streams and rivers. Studying\u00a0carbon isotopes ratios from various points in groundwater allowed \u00a0the researchers discovered previously unaccounted for CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The boreal forest covers an area the size of Russia, but the length and number of streams in it is unknown, making it difficult to estimate the total amount of carbon emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plosone.org\/article\/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0101756\" target=\"_blank\">Original research paper<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0published in the\u00a0journal\u00a0<em>PLoS ONE<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em>on\u00a0<strong>July 24, 2014<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span><em><strong>Names and affiliations of selected\u00a0authors<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jason J.
