Les roches provenant de la cro\u00fbte continentale sont moins denses que les roches formant la cro\u00fbte oc\u00e9anique. Toutefois, l\u2019analyse de ces roches continentales vieilles de 4 milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es trouv\u00e9es au nord de Yellowknife montre qu\u2019elles ressemblent \u00e0 des roches trouv\u00e9es en Islande o\u00f9 l\u2019eau qui s\u2019infiltre dans des volcans sous-marins interagit avec le magma pour former des silicates.
