N\u00e9dia Coutinho and Martin Roy, owners of UW Distribution, an underwater imaging company, spotted this rare lined seahorse during a routine dive off St. Margaret\u2019s Bay, Nova Scotia.<\/p><\/div>\n

Two divers recently spotted<\/a> a lined seahorse (<\/span>Hippocampus erectus<\/span>) \u00a0– rarely seen in Canada – off St. Margaret\u2019s Bay, Nova Scotia. They uploaded the photo to <\/span>iSeahorse<\/a>, a smartphone app developed by an <\/span>international team <\/a>of seahorse scientists, including UBC marine biologist Amanda Vincent. <\/span><\/p>\n

The \u2018citizen science\u2019 initiative is critical due to the fact that less than 15 scientists globally are studying seahorses. The animals are threatened by harmful fishing practices.<\/span><\/p>\n
