A new paper makes one of the first attempts to determine which types of sexual fantasies are rare, unusual, common, or typical from a statistical point of view. The authors used an internet survey with 1,516 adults from Quebec who ranked 55 sexual fantasies and wrote their own favourite.
The survey indicated that men have more fantasies, describe them more vividly than women, and fantasize much more about extramarital relationships compared to women.
The survey also revealed that few fantasies were considered rare (endorsed by less than 2.3 per cent of participants) or typical (endorsed by more than 84.1 per cent of the population). Fantasies about having sex with two women were typical among men (more than 84 per cent) but less than ten per cent of either gender fantasized about being urinated on.
Original research paper published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine on October 30, 2014.
