B.C.’s astronomy enthusiasts will be delighted; the Trottier Observatory and Science Courtyard located on Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus Courtyard will open its door to the public for the first time on April 17th.

The Trottier Observatory and Science Courtyard features a six-meter-diameter dome housing a 0.7-metre-diameter reflector telescope which is among the largest in the province.

A digital feed will be available to community groups and schools across Canada that can be remotely accessed.

The project is the brainchild of two Trottier brothers: SFU physics professor Howard, and philanthropist Lorne. Lorne Trottier is founder of Matrox, a Montreal-based developer of computer graphics cards. His business success has enabled him to give back to the engineering and science community.
