This week a group of articles were published in Nature Geoscience and Nature Climate change jointly focused on “budgeting for climate change”. In one article, researchers, argue against the two degree target limit for global temperature rise. Another paper suggests we should aim to aggressively reduce our current emissions, as soon as possible, saying this is the safest strategy to reduce the effects of greenhouse gases. Finally, using past legal cases from around the world, a commentary outlines how court orders could be used to restrict greenhouse gas emissions from significant contributors, such as coal and oil producers, as well as the difficulties in such legal cases.
