Deep convection in the Labrador Sea and the Atlantic Ocean have been unusually weak since the end of the Little Ice Age, about 170 years ago, compared to the previous 1,500 years. Researchers propose that, at the end of the Little Ice Age, freshwater from the Arctic and Nordic seas triggered this change in the Atlantic current system.
